I toured this museum and found it an amazing museum, not just for the content in it but also the location. The gardens are gorgeous and the museum is housed in a historic building that was originally built and owned by the Steamship company president. From what I have gathered from speaking with long time residents the wife of the president was quite the party girl and threw lavish parties that may have been the demise of the wealth of her husband. I heard he couldn't finish construction because her parties used up all the funds. The models in the museum are amazing and cover everything from pre-civil war thru the great steamship age. When you walk through the museum it is like stepping back in time to an era of great prosperity in Savannah. This is a must see stop when visiting Savannah.
